Early One Morning

When you wake up in the morning and your belly‘s full to bursting

The clock says only five, but your throat is dry and thirsting

There’s a frost upon your nose as it peaks above the covers

And you’d really rather doze, if you only had your druthers.

But the drummer’s roll is booming on your fulminating bladder.

So you step into the cold with your knees and teeth a-chatter.

And you stand beside the throne with a satisfying grin

‘Cause the juices flowing out cause relief to flow back in.

Then you hear your mate approaching, responding to her call,

And you brush against her nightie in the darkness of the hall.

You crawl beneath the covers with your mind and body taught,

Resumption of your sleeping is not uppermost in thought.

Now you hear her coming back. You plan a flank assault;

You’d sort of like to have her think, it’s really all her fault.

You tentatively touch her and discover with delight

The self same thought has struck her—and you twine until it’s light.

Oh the rapture of the morning, exploding into dawn,

As the fabled early birdie salutes your love with song.
