Yes, you did read that right! Surprisingly enough, if you have good quality window blinds in your house or apartment, you probably suffer less stress, less fatigue, and breathe healthier air.
Its no secret that most window blinds are dust magnets
If you have traditional metal or plastic blinds, you likely have to dust them frequently. While the dust that remains is an eyesore, it’s not really a health concern. However, as soon as you begin dusting, you stir it up, reducing the air quality in your home. For those suffering from respiratory problems such as asthma, the simple exercise of cleaning blinds can be deadly, and actually cause more long term health problems than if they stayed dusty.
Bedroom windows that are adorned with only drapes or light curtains can make it difficult to get a good night’s sleep, and really hard to sleep in the morning. In our busy world, most of us can no longer afford to go to bed when the sun sets, and wake when it rises. The result is that our bedrooms need to maintain darkness when we need sleep, regardless of the time of day, and then be easily brightened when we get up.
Also good window blinds provide an audio barrier that is superior to light fabric drapes. Loud, constant noise, especially the kind of noise many city-dwellers experience, can add to the stress load of the day, and impact health.
Not all window blinds are the same.
While old school metal or plastic blinds work to reduce light and noise, the gaps and holes in them can make it difficult to black out a room or block daytime noise. Most blinds made of plastic or metal do little or nothing to dampen noise, and can even reflect it into a room from outside.
Levolor has a premium solution. One of their many products is a pleated accordion-style fabric blind, called appropriately enough Accordia. For those with allergies, the good news is that this product actually repels dust (via a process called DustguardÆ), which means you won’t need to ‘raise dust’ cleaning them as often.
As well, being made of fabric, which helps absorb noise from outside the home that comes through the windows, the units also decrease noise levels inside the house. For more help sleeping, these blinds also provide an improved means of light control, with two options: get a blind in the appropriate light level you want (such as a more opaque blind for the bedroom), or get a two-part solution, with two blinds fitted into the same window opening. This latter option means you can use one or both blinds to control brightness and outside noise levels.
In our modern lifestyle, we are surrounded by both obvious and invisible threats to our health. Dust allergies and stressful noises are minor irratations that can magnify other ailments. Check out Levolor’s fabric blinds products for more information on how you can create a happier healthier home.
