Small Spaces – Powder Room Makeover

Glamour and style

Home style for over-50, Powder room before renovationA spacious, elegant 2,500 sq. ft. condo in Toronto had been completely renovated and decorated, except for the powder bathroom. With original fixtures, more than 25 years old, and outdated cabinets and countertop, this small room was unwelcoming to guests. Here’s how we created a glamorous makeover that added a “wow” factor to this Toronto home.

As you can see, the wallpaper in this small room was dark and drab. What you cannot see is the outdated 25-year-old sink, toilet, white cabinets, countertop and three-light wall sconce which had been removed.

Elements for the makeover

Home style for Toronto over-50s, Small spaces - powder room makeover: stunningThe drab wallpaper has been replaced with a bold black and silver stripe. Sparkling glass sconces bounce light off the crystal mirror and quartzite granite, while warmth exudes from the elegant wood custom vanity. This space has been totally transformed.

The overall design was inspired by the dramatic vessel sink: black glass with white marbling, its shiny surface reflecting light. This became the theme of the room which, in turn, dictated the style and characteristic of every selection.

Due to the placement of the water pipes, which, typical in condos, could not be moved, a stand-alone vanity was not possible. Therefore, a custom cabinet with two cupboards flanking a set of drawers was designed and built. Crystal knobs, mimicking the crystals around the mirror, were added.

Accessories such as the soap dispenser, glass and vase all possess the shiny surfaces central to the design theme of this room.

The vessel sink that was the inspiration for this design sits on a countertop made of Saturnia Quartzite granite. This premium granite has silver streaks combined with black, grey and the same warm brown that matches the wood stain of the cabinets.
